Then and ...

Following a three hour interview with Dr. Albert T. Skinner, president of ACC, Donald Fama was hired as Instructor of Mathematics in September of 1965. At the time, he was a grad student at SU working on his Masters and had married his wife Barbara in 1964.

While teaching at ACC/CCC full time until his retirement in June of 2004, Donald served on two advisory committees; a hybrid committee for computer hardware design and an electronic technical committee. Fama was also co-advisor for PTK for 23 years. He and his wife have two sons, Christopher, who recently became an adjunct instructor in CCC’s Business Department, and Jeffrey, who is a registered Architect in Philadelphia.

Ed Asner Performs on CCC Campus
Some of us lived it or were affected by it while the rest of us learned about it in history class. But to the sold out crowd in the Irene A. Bisgrove Community Theatre at Cayuga Community College, it was like hearing that Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese for the first time. Ed Asner’s stage portrayal of the iconic Franklin Delano Roosevelt was so mesmerizing and believable that you could feel his angst when he picked up the phone and was advised of the attack on that infamous day.
Weeks away from his eighty-first birthday, the thespian and multiple Emmy winner was the voice of Carl Fredricksen in Pixar’s award-winning animated film Up.

ACC/CCC Alumni Board member Lloyd Hoskins, Director of Alumni Affairs Louise Wilson and board president Anthony Gucciardi met with Ed Asner after the production of FDR on October 3.
Though he is best known for his role as Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, the spectators at CCC will now remember him as FDR. The audience of more than 400 was wowed by Asner in FDR, a sequel to the 1958 Broadway hit Sunrise at Campobello written by Dore Schary. All were amazed that Asner could carry the one-man show for 95 minutes with no intermission and flawless portrayal of the polio-stricken president who served four terms in the White House.
The production was sponsored by the CCC Foundation. Advance sale tickets were available to the public for $15 thanks to contributions to the Foundation’s Cultural Enrichment Fund and the Ruth P. Thomas Art Fund. For more information on these funds, call 315-255-1743 ext. 2328.

... Now in 2010
(continued from left sidebar)

At the time of his retirement, Donald Fama agreed to be available to help transition his replacement. While his agreement was for a three year period, he still continues to teach Math 112, Contemporary Mathematics and CS 236, Advanced Visual Basics today. Don is a volunteer at Tyburn Academy, in Auburn where he teaches pre-calculus and calculus. In his free time, he can be found at working at his computer. He is currently a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and his present rank is Faithful Admiral. On October 12, Donald Fama turned 72. He attributes his longevity to “keeping mentally and physically active”. His motto is “Live everyday to the fullest.”
